Press Release: Osprey Fest 2008
Osprey Watch of Southeast Michigan will co-host the fifth annual Osprey Fest July 12 and 13 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Kensington Metropark. This fun, family-oriented event features osprey viewing at two active nests, games, crafts, food, presentations and more. The event is a celebration of the reintroduction of the Osprey, a species which disappeared from southern Michigan in the mid 1900’s and which is again breeding in this area.
All game, craft and media activities take place at the Kensington Metropark Nature Center. Scopes will be set up at two locations in the park where visitors can get an up close look at the resident Ospreys as the young prepare to fledge. One viewing station will be located on the boardwalk near the Nature Center and is handicap accessible. The other station is located near the toll booth at the Milford Rd. entrance.
Combining entertainment with educational experiences, Osprey Fest introduces the public to Osprey natural history, behavior and the ecological and human factors that contributed to their decline and, later, to their recovery. Osprey Fest will be held rain or shine. The event is free to the public (Metropark entry permit required). For additional information and event schedules contact the Kensington Metropark Nature Center at (248) 685-0603.
