The Arts Foundation of Michigan (now ArtServe Michigan)
recognized the troubadours tradition for the first time
by awarding Neil their Creative Arts Grant in 1993.
The Detroit Music Awards has acknowledged his work
with nine awards in seven different categories. The Library
of Congress Office of Folklife, the State of Michigan
Library and the Archives of the State of Michigan
have catalogued Neils recordings and historical notes.
He is a member and participant in Michigan Humanities
Council initiatives such as Michigans Great Outdoors
Culture Tour and the Arts and Humanities Touring Program,
which provides funding assistance to schools and community
organizations statewide.
In June, 2003, Neil was officially named Michigans
Troubadour by the state legislature.
The musical soundtrack for An Osprey Homecoming was
performed and recorded, in its entirety, by Neil Woodward.
Some of the tracks are new compositions of classic folk tunes,
such as "Wayfaring Stranger", "Dubuque"
and "Two Soldiers". Others, such as "Ossie's
Blues", "Barb's Rag" and "Sergej's Waltz"
are original compositions written specifically for the film.
Additional instrumental tracks came from albums previously
released by Mr. Woodward. We are indebted to Neil for his
generosity and willingness to work with us with so much enthusiasm
on this project.
